Lecturer – Graphic Design
BA Hons Graphic Design (GDC)
Melanie completed a Higher Diploma in Graphic Design and Marketing with a specialisation in Graphic Design at the AAA School of Advertising in Johannesburg, South Africa. To complete her studies, she travelled to Hamburg, Germany, undertaking an internship and then starting her career as a graphic designer.
In 2003, Melanie took on a new challenge and enrolled as an honours student at the Greenside Design Center to broaden her horizons. Here, Melanie was introduced to the world of lecturing and ultimately began her journey as graphic design lecturer in 2004.
Melanie is passionate about her love for typography and as a member of the International Society of Typographic Designers she tries to instil this passion in her students. She has been invited on more than one occasion to be an online judge for the international Poster for Tomorrow competition. To her success, her students are regularly placed in the Gold Pack Student awards/Student World Star awards and she has an impressive history of Loerie Award winning students. Most recently some of her students have also won awards at the international 45 Symbols Project.
Outside of lecturing, Melanie applies her love for various media experimentation from fabric to wood into her company – Adaptations. Through this, she is able to create conceptually driven décor accessories for ever changing environments.
