Interior Design
Monica is head of the department of interior design and lectures in third year interior design as well as in the honours programme. After graduating with a National Higher Diploma in interior design at the Technicon Witwatersrand, she lectured at the Technicon before entering the interior design industry.
After 6 years at DSGN working as an associate designer for Trevor Julius, Monica started an interior design consultancy called dia in 1997, working in the retail, corporate, hospitality and residential markets. In 1998 she was awarded the TWR Club 1000 young achiever award for outstanding contribution to the arts and humanities.
Monica is a keen cook and in 2006 completed her City and Guilds certificate in professional chef at the capsicum culinary studio and after a day at work finds some relaxation in the ritual of chopping and preparing ingredients destined for the pot!
As a past SABS Design Institute Design Achiever awards winner (1989) she serves on the judging panel and has chaired the judging panel on four occasions. Monica has also sat on the judging panel for the SABS Design Institute Design Excellence awards since 2008.
Monica is currently enrolled in the Masters programme at the University of Johannesburg, any rare free time is spent visiting art galleries or outdoors cycling or quad-biking.
